The just-released updates to FTPhoto and FTProofsheet have more to them, than just being minor maintenance releases. To our list of supported targets, we have now added Linux on ARM processors. Prominently, this includes the popular Raspberry Pi.
With feedback from our client photo labs, we have found that a surprising number of their customers use desktop Linux. This has particularly been the case with FTProofsheet. In a way, that makes sense, since FTProofsheet is for labs with film customers. It is not surprising that film connoisseurs would also explore other esoteric interests, including choice of computer platform. With the addition of Pi support, we hope that our customers have more happy customers themselves.
Additionally, for the Mac versions, we have made tweaks for the forthcoming release of macOS 11 “Big Sur”. It is premature to claim compatibility with an unreleased operating system, and Apple could yet throw us a curve. But based on performance over the course of many Big Sur betas, we’re not frowning.
At this writing, we are updating our clients with the new releases.
We wish all of our clients, and all who visit here, prosperity and health during these challenging times.
